bored meeting

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

thanks to all who came to the bored meeting… i wasn’t bored at all!

y’all had great ideas and input, and everyone had thick skin… i even told a couple guys ’shut up’… (sorry guys).  i had fun, if no one else did.

jennifer typed up some great notes from the meeting; thanks.  (if anyone wants a copy, leave a comment below)

jim will be giving us some plans for a picnic-table/storage/combo-trailer soon.  that should work out perfectly.  btw, jim, add on some storage for croquet.  maybe we can strike up a little game out there…

note;  whenever we have a meeting, we’ll also be eating.  together.  it keeps things informal.  we like informal.

lunches tomorrow.   yucky joe’s (sloppy joe’s) on saturday! (not my fave, but, apparently lot’s of people love ‘em)

later, y’all food-sharin’ goofballs!

eh

ps. if you’ve been saving toiletries, bring ‘em saturday.  also, if you’ve never delivered the meals before, consider going this saturday.  several of our ‘food preppers’ are going, and we’ll have a fun time together.

Needs, Wants, and Other Stuff

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Just a quick update on a few things…

We are preparing sandwiches for tomorrow’s outing (4/26) – we need fruit and salty snacks…

We are also having a meeting on Sunday at 1 p.m.   Meet at New Life Christian Church and bring your own lunch.  We will provide drinks.  Erik will provide inspiration.  God will provide anything else we need.

Email Issues – As many of you may know (and many may not), we are still having some issues with automatic email updates.  This apparently is due to the tight anti-spam measures put in place by our various email hosting companies.  We are testing another option right now that is separate from the website, and it looks promising, considering it is free.  Once we switch over, you’ll get more details on what to do, if anything.

See ya,
Dan

mad house

Monday, April 21st, 2008

wow!!  yesterday, we gave out 300 sack lunches, plus we were able to give some more donated food to a homeless shelter!  great day!

at our first stop, in little five points, one guy told us he had a hut from the “mad-housers”….. ‘what’s that?’ you say??  well, i’d read about this group before.  they find a homeless person and a location, and then build them a small hut.  it’s about 6×8, with a locking door and a stove.

so, i find out his name, william, and i ask him if we could see it… he says ’sure, follow me’.  so, we follow him (he’s on a bike), and arrive at an overgrown lot in a residential area.  we walk on a path through the brush, and -there it is- his home!

he tells us of the ‘other guys’ who stole some of his stuff, but, he’s thankful for what he has, and he’s very very pleasant…

pretty cool!!  if you know any carpenters that would like to help out,  just check out ‘www.madhousers.org’

god is good, all the time!!

baseball-player-lawyer-astronaut

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

the other night, i saw some children being interviewed.  they were living in poverty, and someone was asking them what they want to be when they grow up (personally, i hope they never grow up. . .)

the answer from one boy blew me away.  he wants to be a ‘baseball player-lawyer-in space’. . .  he wants to be everything!!

what a dreamer!

keep dreaming!

Saturday needs

Friday, April 11th, 2008

We have been blessed with bread,  sweets and salties (chips).  We have a need for lunch meat, cheese, and fruit, such as bananas and oranges.   If you can donate any of these it will be greatly appreciated.

macGyver shares some food

Monday, April 7th, 2008

so today, art and i thought we’d have to take some extra food to the shelter, since we had about 240 sack lunches, plus some taco shells, meat, and rice. plus it was a rainy day. usually, rainy days keep people kinda hidden.

well, we ran out of lunches, and still had people wanting some food, but, we hadn’t packed any serving spoons, plates, anything like that.

so, art cuts off the bottom of a desani bottle, makes it into a scoop, and we begin to fill the shells with rice and meat. then we ran out of shells, and started putting rice in the bottom the cups with meat on the top…. we called it a “cup taco” to be eaten like a cup-o-soup with no spoon! we apologized, but everyone liked it.

good day! fun day!  thanks to all y’all for makin it happen!

Vito

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

for the first time in many many years, i picked up a hitch-hiker the other day.  it felt like God put him in my path, since i was just trying to stop for a power-nap on this on-ramp going toward lagrange, ga, on 85S.  there he was, so i thought “i’ll just pick him up, then i’m sure i won’t fall asleep”.

so, i drove him the 25 miles, then an extra 13 miles to get him into alabama, since he said the georgia police gave him a hard time.

his name is vito, and he’s a painter by trade.  he’d been working on the coast of n.c., but, ran out of work.  he was going to biloxi, ms, where there should be plenty of work.

the cool thing was when he said he’d prayed that morning, and realized that God takes care of the sparrows, so he knew He’d take care of him, too.

a simple truth i was glad to be reminded of.

For this Saturday

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

We will be making sandwiches again this week.  We had so much fun making pb & j (not) last week that we will make bologna and cheese this week.  We will need cheese, bread, fruit (always in need of fruit), chips (pretzels), and sandwich/snack bags.  Since we are making sandwiches twice a week, we are using lots of little plastic bags.

I also want to thank everyone who has been associated with helping us get to our 10,000 meal (in less than a year, I might add).  We have people that come every Tuesday or every Saturday, and we have others that come when they can.  We have some that can’t come at all but donate food items regularly, and some donate food as they can.  Everything and everybody is appreciated.  And I thank you so very much.

We have a good time when we get together so come join us this Saturday.
