Sharing the next few Saturday’s

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

On Saturday, September 27th, we will be sharing sack lunches.  We are getting low on brown paper bags.  And, of course, we will need bologna, cheese, chips, etc.

On Saturday, October 4th, we will be sharing pork sandwiches.  Some of the youth will be traveling with us.  Rusty has some pulled pork in his freezer left over from a recent event.  We will need hamburger buns, cole slaw, packaged chips, pickle slices, desserts, plates, and some bbq sauce.  We could also use a few disposable table clothes.  This would make clean up go a lot quicker.

On Saturday, October 11th, we will be sharing sack lunches again.  There will be some youth traveling again.

Don’t forget we also share on Sundays and Tuesdays (at least Tuesday for the next 4 weeks, then it may change again).  We welcome food items to help with those days also.

Don’t forget we are having a new blanket drive.  These will be wrapped and given out on Christmas eve.  Smaller blankets and throws would be the best because the folk who get them will have to carry them where ever they go.

That is all that has been planned so far.  Thank you to everyone who helps through donations, time, and prayers.

more teen helpers

saturday, about 20 teens, plus several adults, helped prepare and deliver meals downtown.

it was really cool to see them working so hard. they carried stuff, cleaned stuff, divided stuff, filled stuff, served stuff, and (hopefully) ate some stuff.

they helped people, served people, were very kind to people, and sat and talked with the people.

their youth leader, brent, is doing a great job of challenging them to not be boring, useless, sit-on-the-pew christians.

how beautiful to watch god’s young people help god’s troubled people! what a great day!

teen helpers

over the last two weekends, i’ve been the lucky recipient of help from teenagers.

the first saturday, 2 teen girls carried food downtown with me.  they were so sweet and helpful, loving on the people we met.

last saturday, josh, 16, helped me.

josh was crackin’ me up as we drove toward “the A.T.L.” as he called it.  he thought we might need bullet-proof vests, since he’d heard of all the gangs there.  i told him i didn’t think we had to worry.

after a couple stops, he realized we were visiting with some very nice people.  he was shocked at the number of people on the street.  he shared dreams of, when he becomes rich, buying a large hotel to house them.  he said that “we’ve got to help them, get them a house or something”.

then, when we were done, we received 2 free energy drinks from a promo-givaway.  “a reward for doing good” he thought.  (don’t forget, josh; better rewards later).  we also talked about the enormity of god.  and the smallness of god.  good times.

he also has ideas for him and his friends to put on a “skate-demo-fund-raiser” to help the homeless!  won’t that be cool???

i used to be afraid of teens.  i guess they’re not so bad.
