i was working in greenville, sc, the other day, and a cool thing was happening.
in the testing lab where i was working (actually, reading the paper…) (waiting on something, not slacking!)Â there were several people moving around, doing different things. one of them was a large black lady, probably in her 50’s.
from across the room, i heard her start singing. “blessed assurance, Jesus is mine.” very cool. “this is my story, this is my song. praising my saviour, all the day long!”
she wasn’t just humming it. or mumble-singing. she was belting it out! while she kept on working!
then, a song i didn’t know. something like “lay down our lives for the lord”.
then, “when we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be”
then, “i surrender all”
it was pretty cool to have my attention taken away from all the bad news in the paper, to this beautiful, unashamed singing…..
“all to thee, my blessed saviour, i surrender all”
